Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS)

  • Are you experiencing difficulties in relation to the NHS? If so we can help resolve them.

  • The Patient Experience Team are here to listen and take your views forward.
   
     
     
As a patient, relative or carer, sometimes you may need to turn to someone for prompt help, advice and support when using NHS services. The PALS team will be happy to help you.
   
     
     
PALS can:    
     
  • Offer prompt, confidential help and advice to resolve problems quickly about the NHS care provided by:
   
     
- GPs, dentists, pharmacists, opticians
   

- Community services (eg, local clinic, health visitors,  district nurses etc)

   
- Mental health services
   
     
  • Help contact other organisations who offer advice, including independant advocacy services
   
     
  • Listen to our patients, carers and relatives, to improve patient care
   
     
  • Provide information about local health services and support groups
   
     
  • Give guidance on how to access the NHS Complaints Procedure

What about confidentiality?

   
     

All discussions and correspondence with the PALS team are confidential. Your concerns will only be shared with those members of staff who need to be aware of them in order to provide you with either a satisfactory response to your concerns or information concerning health care services.

   
     

If you have consulted the PALS team on behalf of a friend or relative, the PALS team will not be able to share confidential information about the patient with you, unless they have the patient’s express permission to do so. They will, however, be happy to give you general information about services and how they operate.

If you would like to meet with a PALS Officer in person this can be arranged. You should call the PALS free-phone number to make an appointment.

   
     
     
PLEASE NOTE PALS is not an emergency service – if you have a clinical problem or need clinical advise you should contact your GP practice or NHS Direct on 0845 46 47.    
     
PALS are normally available from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m Monday to Friday. Outside of these hours an answer-phone/message system is available on 0800 953 0676.
